UKHO with drinks on board HMS Belfast

The UKHO in March held their conference at the Amba Hotel, Marble Arch and had a fully packed programe for the day. The conference morning session was a blast of information including guest speakers with question and answer sessions at specified intervals.
UKHO are a government body who are responsible for the development and operations of the worlds ship navigation systems. The days of paper charts still exist but modern technology has now placed this into a stage further.UKHO London

The morning sessions broke for lunch and a large group photograph of the whole force of UKHO took place within the conference room on thier return. Although the room was a little small for the amount of people who attended of around one hundred and forty,  experienced photographer Peter Austin of Alternative Images did a fantastic job of arranging all on stage where they could be placed. Unfortunately the stage length was a bit smaller than one would have liked for such a large group so the last remaining people who arrived had to stand on the lower carpet area. Not an ideal situation but sometimes trying to achieve something in an area that doesn’t quite suit does have to have a compromise.

Admiralty GroupThe afternoon was made up of interactive sessions within various rooms in groups and then later all gathered for a closing session in the main area. Then we were all informed that the group would be taken to a secret venue for the evening via old London Routemaster buses that ended up a drinks an nibbles event on board HMS Belfast that is moored as a museum on the river thames in London

Be Inspired with Imperial

Been a busy time the last quarter of the month and not had much time to report back with what’s been going on. Alternative was once again involved with the autumn conference for the European business area of the group and held the event as last year at the Hilton Heathrow T5.

The conference was at a fast moving pace wanting to include as much detail and information as possible in the one day event. We started at prompt half past nine and went virtually straight through until six that evening only stopping for short coffee refreshments and a swift lunch break.

During the conference there was a schedule of eighteen presenters that I had to capture on the stage. That’s quite a lot of camera clicks using a mono pod so I was able to move around as quietly as possible. Also using quiet shutter on my D4! I was working for my usual client but was supplying images on the day to a new employee of the group who was handling the marketing area of the conference. This I made more easy for him to handle because I downloaded and sorted the images into the categories as and when it all happened.

As in Imperial fashion the event would not be complete without the evening function of a grand spread of various foods of the world, all in one place, so whatever your fancy it would be there, and to complete the evening there was a celebration with awards held by the CEO Alison Cooper.

NAHT Aspire at Grand Connaught Rooms July 2015

It is time to catch up on events that have happened during the summer months at Alternative Images. As the holiday season approached as always companies tend to wind down and place themselves into a sense of ‘tick over mode’ with the thought of people being away on their annual holidays with family and the companies staff being off work for fortnightly periods in turn. So I spent roughly five weeks in between photo assignments re-vamping the kitchen. Who needs a beach!

It does quieten down work wise in my industry as well during the summer months, but I was pleasantly surprised to hear from one of my long standing clients that has been away from the media sector for a while back working with the NAHT (national association of head teachers) and wanting me to cover a networking learning conference for them held early July at the Grand Connaught Rooms, London.

The day was a filled with informative speeches and three sessions of workshops held in various suites at the venue with titles such as ‘Helping teaches see what children see’ and a special presentation from a company that delivers designed software that is used to enhance the experience within the school classroom. What amused me while I was snapping away with one of my favourite lenses was how the presentation to all in the room sounded as if we were all wearing short trousers and eight years old. But we did behave ourselves and no one needed to go to the toilet!
